LED Camera Settings Advisor

Start with the LED wall. Get practical camera settings.

Enter parameters normally available in VMP or from the LED technician. The tool ranks standard camera frame rates and gives a shutter starting point.

Camera and lens

Camera format and lens data are used for a geometric moiré estimate.

CAMERA STARTING PROFILE

Recommended setup

STARTING POINT
BEST RATE MATCH
CAMERA FPS23.976fps
SHUTTER180°1/47.952 s

Exact 2:1 reference / camera relationship.

  1. 1

Set camera sensor sync to Genlock.

  2. 2

Set camera FPS and shutter to the values above.

  3. 3

If supported, enter the same shutter value in COEX Shutter Fit.

  4. 4

Start COEX Phase Offset at its default 0°; use it only as the final physical trim.

LED CAPTURE CONDITIONWORKABLE

The wall parameters support a practical starting profile.

COMPROMISEAlternative rate
47.952 fps180° · 1/95.904 s

Exact 1:1 synchronization, but the shorter exposure needs more light and may reveal LED timing more easily.

NOT RECOMMENDEDMismatched rates
25 / 29.97 / 30 fpsShutter changes do not repair a drifting frame relationship.

Use only when the wall and master clock can be changed to the same rate family.

02

ARTEFACT RISK

What is most likely to cause trouble

SYNC DRIFTLOWER

Common Genlock keeps the frame relationship stable.

SCAN / PWMMEDIUM

Refresh, scan and brightness determine the starting risk.

MOIRÉ / ALIASINGHIGH

LED pitch is close to the camera sampling scale.

2.1 camera px / LED pixel
VISIBLE PIXEL STRUCTURELOWER

Individual LED pixels are unlikely to dominate at this geometry.

Geometric estimate only. Camera-format presets use an approximate active width; focus, aperture, OLPF, Bayer pattern, panel RGB layout and crop/readout mode can move the real moiré boundary.

Method, sources & limits

User input

LED refresh, scan, brightness, pixel pitch, Genlock, Shutter Fit availability and camera geometry come from the user. The tool does not read VMP, a camera or an NCP.

PixelSentinel calculation

Frame-rate relationships, exposure time and the shutter angle nearest to whole nominal refresh periods are calculated from those inputs.

Heuristic estimate

Rate ranking, capture-condition labels and geometric moiré risk are PixelSentinel starting heuristics. They are not NovaStar ratings or measured cabinet performance.

Physical verification

Confirm PWM/scan banding, sensor readout, focus, aperture, OLPF, Bayer sampling, LED RGB layout, the actual NCP and final Phase Offset on the specific camera and wall.

The ranking evaluates frame-rate compatibility. Shutter is fitted near 180° to the nearest whole number of nominal LED refresh periods, then rounded to a realistic 0.1° camera setting. Begin Phase Offset at its default 0° and use it only as the final physical trim.
